Townies face Barrington in a non-league match

EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School boys’ volleyball team’s bid for a second victory in what has been a trying season to date came up empty late last week as the Townies suffered a 3-1 loss to visiting Barrington in a non-league contest.

The Eagles defeated the locals by the scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-15, leaving East Providence with a 1-13 overall record for the spring. Barrington improved to 6-7 overall. The Eagles are 4-7 in Division II play. The Townies entered the new week winless in D-I action at 0-12.

East Providence also played a pair of league matches last week, starting with a 3-0 loss to Coventry. The Knotty Oakers were winners by the scores of 25-19. 25-11 and 25-13. The Townies next played one of their more competitive matches to date, falling to Mount St. Charles, 3-2. The Mounties won 26-28, 25-14, 25-14, 22-25 and 15-10. Eric Long led the locals with 10 kills while Tiago Fernandes added eight.
