REHOBOTH — The 18th Annual Major Alister McGregor Memorial Golf Tournament took place Monday, Sept. 9, at Crestwood Country Club. The outing, held in the memory of the fallen former East Providence Police officer, benefits a scholarship in his name and other charities.
"Basically, (the outing) is to get everyone together to celebrate Al's life and remember his sacrifice and the sacrifice of others in public safety," said McGregor Foundation board member and former EPPD colleague
Walter Barlow.
A total of 150 golfers as well as sponsors took part, raising some $7,000 for the foundation. Monies from the event have and wll be used to support the Myron Francis Elementary School Playground, Special Olympics, Make A Wish, the Open Doors Program, local sports programs and most recently the East Providence High School band trip to perform at the 2020 National Memorial Day celebration in Washington, D.C.
