Mrs. Gail A. (Calderiso) McGovern, age 68, of Harborview Avenue, Bristol, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of David McGovern, her husband of 48 years.
Born in Providence and raised in Warren, she was a daughter of the late Domenic M. “Babe” and Alice R. (Marchand) Calderiso. A resident of Bristol for 48 years, she was the co-owner of McGovern’s Floor Coverings of Bristol for many years along with her husband, David, retiring in 2009. Previously Gail was a licensed real estate agent for a number of years.
Gail was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Bristol and loved to spend time with her family and friends golfing, playing cards and enjoying winters in Florida with dear friends. She was a sports enthusiast and was an avid volunteer. Gail was a member of the Fall River Country Club, Montaup Country Club and the Kingsway Country Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, David McGovern (Sarah), Nicholas McGovern, and Sandra McGovern-Dugan, all of Bristol; her seven beloved grandchildren, Alex, Thomas, Tess, Patrick, Gaetano, Nicola and Amelia; and her granddog, Ichiban. Also survived by a brother, Michael D. Calderiso (Kathie) of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and four sisters, Alicia M. Martucci (John) of Warwick, Paula J. Martel (Bill Bowler) and Julie T. Vargas (Stephen) of Bristol and Patricia LaFerriere (Roy) of West Barnstable, Mass.
Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 6 p.m.
