Fireworks rain down on Bristol through Fourth of July weekend

Though criminal activity was at a minimum, Bristol police officers were kept busy fielding scores of fireworks complaints through the week leading up to and beyond the Fourth of July.

Monday, June 29

Police received fireworks complaints at 8:13 p.m. from the area of Bay View Avenue and George Street, and at 10:28 p.m. from Roma Street.

A Sherman Avenue resident complained of noise at 11:52 a.m. A short time later, an officer issued a summons.

Tuesday, June 30

An officer dispersed people from the town beach area at 3:29 a.m.

A resident complained of fireworks in the area of State and Second streets at 8:49 p.m.

Someone complained of fireworks in the area of a dock off King Philip Avenue at 10:20 p.m.

Wednesday, July 1

After receiving a complaint about loud music, officers dispersed a large group of people from the beach area off Melrose Road at 2:54 a.m.

Police received fireworks complaints from the area of Richmond and Wood streets at 8:14 p.m.; from Sweeney Lane at 8:48 p.m.; Franklin Street at 8:53 p.m.; and Butterworth Avenue at 9:51 p.m.

After responding to a reported fight in the roadway along Siegel Street at 11:33 p.m., officers arrested Alisha M. Conklin, 37, of Newport, and charged her with violation of a no-contact order. They also called rescue to the scene.

Thursday, July 2

A resident on Thompson Avenue reported three people swimming in her pool at 1:15 a.m. Officers issued no-trespass orders to the three of them.

Police received fireworks complaints from State Street at 5:51 p.m.; State Street again at 6:57 p.m.; State and Second streets at 7:18 p.m.; the Town Common at 8:39 p.m.; Ggibson Road at 8:51 p.m.; Franklin and Wood streets at 9:02 p.m.; Primrose Drive and Hampden Road at 9:08 p.m.; Franklin Street at 9:09 p.m.; Beach Road at 9:13 p.m.; and Wood and Franklin streets at 9:23 p.m.

An officer dispersed people who were fishing under the Mt. Hope Bridge at the end of Lower Ferry Road at 9:47 p.m.

After getting a complaint about a large group of people making noise on Lincoln Avenue at 11:43 p.m., officers advised a small group of people to move things inside for the night.

Friday, July 3

A Ferry Road resident reported at 6:34 a.m. that a squirrel had fallen through the sunroof of their car.

Chante M. Pates, 32, of North Providence, was taken into custody on a Superior Court warrant at 7:02 p.m.

Police received 22 fireworks complaints: Bay View Avenue at 7:34 p.m.; Fox Hill Avenue at 8:04 p.m.; Annawamscutt Drive at 8:50 p.m.; the area of Ursula Drive and Narrows Road at 8:54 p.m.; Franklin and Wood streets at 8:54 p.m.; Alves Street at 9:05 p.m.; Franklin Street at 9:05 p.m.; the Town Common at 9:11 p.m.; Robin Drive at 9:14 p.m.; Second Street at 9:17 p.m.; DeWolf Avenue at 9:18 p.m.; Scott Lane at 9:20 p.m.; Hope Street at 9:47 p.m.; Jane Lane at 9:15 p.m.; Hope Street at 9:53 p.m. (for a party and fireworks); the Town Common at 10:15 p.m.; the area of Metacom Avenue and Francesca Lane at 10:50 p.m.; Sheffield Avenue at 10:54 p.m.; the area of State and First streets at 10:56 p.m.; Constitution Street at 11:19 p.m.; Harrison Street at 11:40 p.m.; and Baker and Perry streets at 11:53 p.m.

At 11:22 p.m., officers advised a group outside of a Basswood Road house to move things inside for the night.

Saturday, July 4

Officers responded to Richmond Street for a report of a large gathering of people at 12:12 a.m.

Police received nine more fireworks complaints between midnight and 1:30 a.m. They came from Harrison Street, Hopeworth Avenue, Hope Street, Harrison Street, State and Wood streets, Bay View Avenue, Oliver Street, Magnolia Street and Bradford Street.

Officers responded to Mt. Hope Avenue for a report of a group of people being too loud at 1:37 a.m. They found three people in the backyard and no noise upon arrival.

Charles D. Holden, 24, of Warren, was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test after being stopped along Hope Street at 2:39 a.m.

Police received a noise complaint from Fesser Avenue at 2:47 a.m.

Officers investigated a reported large gathering on Mt. Hope Avenue at 2:32 p.m. and found no problems.

Police received 33 reports of fireworks, beginning at 5:11 p.m. and continuing to 11:44 p.m. In many cases, officers spoke to the residents and advised them to cease. They received additional noise complaints from Franca Drive at 8:46 p.m.; St. Elizabeth Street at 8:57 p.m.; Woodlawn Avenue at 9:18 p.m.; the area of State and First streets at 9:32 p.m.; Rock Street at 9:35 p.m.; Leila Jean Drive at 9:48 p.m.; and River Street at 9:57 p.m.

At 9:30 p.m., officers dispersed a group of 16 youths who had jumped over a fence and were on a dock along Hope Street.

After responding to a domestic disturbance on State Street at 10:26 p.m., officers arrested Daniel D. Santos, 54, of 274 State St., Apt. 2R, Bristol. He was brought to the station, held overnight, charged with domestic assault (third offense), domestic refusal to relinquish a phone, and violation of a no-contact order. He was arraigned in the morning and then transferred to the ACI.

Sunday, July 5

Officers dispersed a group of people from Gladding Street and Metacom Avenue at 12:25 a.m.

Officer advised someone in the area of State and Rock streets about shooting off fireworks at 12:27 a.m.

Officers spoke to a resident after a complaint about loud music and fireworks from a Lafayette Drive residence at 1:17 p.m.

Officers spoke to a Primrose Drive resident after a complaint about loud music at 2:15 a.m.

Officers were called to Siegel Street at 2:32 a.m. for a reported disturbance in the street. There were no arrests.

There were two complaints about someone riding a small motor bike up and down Rosedale Drive shortly after 4 p.m.

There were more fireworks complaints from: First Street at 8:53 p.m.; Beach Road at 8:59 p.m.; and Second Street at 9:51 p.m.

Officers dispersed three vehicles and their occupants from the Town Beach area at 9:30 p.m.

Residents on Roma Street were advised to bring things inside for the night at 9:48 p.m.
