Fire marshal: Someone is trying to burn down Barrington house

Fire department called to Northwest Passage home again

Posted

On Tuesday night, Nov. 1, someone reportedly tried to burn down the home at 2 Northwest Passage.

And on Wednesday night, they tried again.

According to the State Fire Marshal's office, there is evidence that an arsonist has twice struck the recently renovated home at 2 Northwest Passage. The home is currently vacant and has been listed for sale for approximately $449,000.

Realtor calls fire department about 2 Northwest Passage.

"We believe each of the last two nights there has been an attempt to burn the house down," said John Dean, Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal, in an interview on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Barrington Fire Chief Gerald Bessette said on Wednesday that his department received a call from a Realtor who was listing the house on the market. He said the Realtor believed something suspicious had taken place at the home and wanted local police and fire officials to take a closer look.

The fire department responded to the home, where it appeared someone had lit a fire in the interior. The fire reportedly put itself. Chief Bessette handed over the investigation the State Fire Marshal's office on Wednesday and officials were at the home during the daylight hours. A sign was posted on the home's exterior offering a reward for more information about the incident.

Late Wednesday night, the fire department was again called to the home. A second fire was burning inside the dwelling and flames could be seen through the windows. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and investigators were back at 2 Northwest Passage on Thursday.

Anyone with more information about the two fires should call the Arson Watch Tip Line at 401-383-7723.
