WESTPORT —A Sunday afternoon blaze caused heavy damage to a single family summer cottage at 147F Cadmans Neck.
At 3:22 p.m., the Westport Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 147F Cadmans Neck Road near the Westport River's East Branch.
The first arriving engine reported heavy smoke coming from the rear of the cottage. The fire was under control within 45 minutes. The fire department remained on scene overhauling the structure to ensure that the fire was out.
The cause of the fire is undetermined amd remains under investigation. It caused an estimated $100,000-plus loss to the building and contents.
Westport responded with three engines and was assisted at the scene by Dartmouth District 2, Tiverton, and Little Compton. There were no injuries reported.
While apparatus was still on scene of this fire call and during the next two hours, Westport received assistance from Dartmouth, Fall River, and Tiverton for medical calls. Tiverton also responded for a capsized canoe on Sawdy Pond. And Westport responded (as one engine was clearing) to a medical emergency on the Westport River.
