WESTPORT — A Friday night fire caused considerable damage to a storage-type structure at 365 Narrow Avenue in Westport close to the Rhode Island line.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, December 6, the Westport Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 365 Narrow Ave in Westport. The property is owned by Ronald Mercier.

Captain Brian A. Beaulieu said that the first engine arrived approximately 10 minutes later and reported a 20-by-40-foot  structure fully involved in fire. The fire was brought under control in around 40 minutes and personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours.

Westport responded with two engines and one tanker truck and was assisted with mutual aid tankers from the Tiverton and Little Compton Fire Departments.

The fire caused an estimated $30,000 worth of loss to the building and its contents.
