Officials from a youth sports league in Barrington had to spend time picking up dog feces from an athletic field on Sowams Road before they could allow boys and girls to use the field last week.

Barrington police said people have not been cleaning up after their dogs at the Sowams Road field and at other parks and fields in town. Last week, police issued a warning that they would be more strictly enforcing the town’s leash law. 

On Wednesday, an employee from the Barrington Department of Public Works was at the Sowams Road field preparing it for a youth sports league when he noticed a man walking his dog at the field. The DPW worker told the man that he needs to pick up after his dog, which drew an angry curse-riddled response from the dog-walker. The DPW worker then filed a complaint with police regarding the situation.
