Witches & Wizards Creative Arts Camp
This February vacation, enjoy dozens of magic and wizardry-themed theater skits, acting games & activities, arts & crafts, improvisation and more, for children in grades K through 5. February School Vacation Week at Audubon
Don't know what to do with the kids during the school vacation break? Head to Audubon for winter fun for all ages. Nature crafts will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day, as well as a Nature Story at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 pm. Join an animal interview at 1:30 pm.
The following programs are available each day at 11:00 am for children ages 6 and up:
Monday, February 17: Audubon Treasure Hunt
Bundle up and head outside to crack some clues on this chilly adventure.
Tuesday, February 18: Nature Games
Come play a variety of nature games with Audubon! 
Wednesday, February 19: Amazing Owls
Learn all about these incredible birds and find out which ones live in Rhode Island.
Thursday, February 20: Wind & Waves
Why do some things float and some things sink? Come learn all about wind and waves and see if you can build your own floating vessel.
Friday, February 21: Fantastic Fish Learn about the ancient Japanese art of fish printing and see if you can master this art form.

Providence Children's Film Festival
Held Feb. 14-23, the Providence Children's Film Festival includes film screenings, filmmaker presentations, and hands-on youth workshops in and around Providence. This year's event includes two screenings in Barrington, on Tuesday, Feb. 18. At 4 p.m., The Worlds Around Us (75 min.) – Short Films Collection, Multi-National (In English or/ with English subtitles); at 6 p.m., Be Strong, Be Kind (70 min.) Art Week at the Whaling Museum
The New Bedford Whaling Museum is inviting students to visit during February vacation week for its inaugural Art Week event. From February 17-21, the Museum will host workshops for middle and high school students where they can explore the Museum’s extensive collection of art—including paintings, scrimshaw, art glass, sculptures, carvings, ship models, and textiles—and create their own works of art. Art stations are completely free. Workshops are also free, but registration is required.
The Whaling Museum also has additional family activities on offer during the February school vacation week. The Museum’s life-size inflatable humpback whale will be back Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. On Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m., visitors can go “All Aboard the Lagoda,” to travel the seas, interact with new cultures, learn the ropes of a whaleship, and go a-whaling. Museum Highlights Tours will run daily at 11 am. These activities are free for Whaling Museum members and with regular paid admission to the Museum.

Tales of a Winter’s Moon: Chilling New England Folklore at Mount Hope Farm
Looking for a fun February vacation activity for the whole family? Head over to Mount Hope Farm on February 19th for a night of fun for children and adults. Storyteller Christopher Rudina will be telling stories of long ago and what better place to do that than in the historical setting of Mount Hope Farm. Children are welcome to attend in their pajamas and can even bring their sleeping bag and favorite stuffed animal!
This event is free for Mount Hope Farm Members, $5 per person for non-members with a cap of $20/family. Seating is limited so please call 401/254-1745 to reserve your seat. For more information, please visit www.mounthopefarm.org.

Frosty February vacation week workshops
Spend your February Vacation immersed in the arts, at the New Bedford Art Museum. The week will be packed with possibilities, imagination and fun as students explore exciting activities each day for kids ages 6-13, including Tweens on Wheels Clay, Teens: Digi and Animation, and Multi-media. Newport Winter Festival
Once again, the Newport Mansions will offer a warm welcome during the Newport Winter Festival, with discounted admission prices and a week of programs for children.
From February 14-23, visitors to The Breakers, The Elms, Marble House and Rosecliff will receive $3 off any admission ticket by showing a Winter Festival bracelet at the ticket counter. Children accompanied by an adult with a bracelet will be admitted free. For kids, The Breakers offers a self-guided audio Family Tour that brings the house and its denizens to life. Winterfest Storytime returns to The Breakers Stable & Carriage House, 53 Coggeshall Ave., February 17-21 with sessions each day at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. This free family program features stories and take-home craft projects designed for young participants. New stories will be read daily.

East Providence Libraries
February Vacation Week events include Magician Steven Craig at Weaver Library, Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.; Sparkly Winter Art at Riverside Library, Wednesday, Feb.19 at 2 p.m.; and Big Blue Blocks at Weaver Library, Thursday, Feb. 20, 9:30 a.m. Weaver Library is at 41 Grove Ave., East Providence; Riverside is at 475 Bullocks Point Ave., Riverside. Animal Superpowers at Norman Bird Sanctuary
Animals have many different adaptations that help them survive in the wild and each day this week we will focus on a different amazing animal ability. Crafts and games are also part of the fun! Norman Bird Sanctuary offers vacation camp programs for children school age children, grades K-6. Camp groups utilize our 325-acre outdoor classroom and are held in small groups with caring, enthusiastic and professional Teacher Naturalists.
Camp will be held Monday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members: $50 per day or $245 for the week; non-members: $55 per day or $270 for the week. Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
