Fall Book Sale Members Only Preview at Weaver Library Oct. 3, 2024

A Members Only Preview Book Sale will be held for Friends of the Library on October 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. Individuals who are not Friends can join for a $10 per person annual membership fee, payable at the door. This is the best time to buy the best books. All paid members are welcome to purchase books at this advance sale. Thousands of books will be available for $1 or less. Hard and soft cover books are $1, children’s 50¢, pocket-sized paperbacks are 50¢ and CDs, DVDs and audio books are $1. Books are easily accessible on bookcases and are sorted in more than 50 categories; novels are in order by author’s last name. On sale are novels, vintage, collectible, recent releases, author-signed, yearbooks, classics and books on business, health, sports, cooking and religion. Also offered are books on poetry, history, art, film and more, as well as sheet music, comics and puzzles. Pay by cash or check only. Benefit East Providence Public Library. Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
