Escobar’s opening its 25th annual Corn Maze

The annual maize maze is open with a new design in an 8.5-acre corn maze with over 2 miles of walking paths, a pick-your-own Pumpkin Patch, hayrides on weekends, and a kids’ cow train. A Harry Potter/Mad Science Day is Saturday, Sept. 21, with a show by a mad scientist at 1 p.m. Wear a Harry Potter costume for $1 off entry.

WHAT: Annual corn maze

WHEN: Fridays to Sundays and Columbus Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. now through Nov. 3, when hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Escobar’s Farm, 255 Middle Road, Portsmouth

COST: $10 for ages 11 and older, $8 for ages 4 to 10, and free for ages 3 and under; see prices for rides on the website

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
