The East Providence High School girls' soccer club bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 12-0 throttling of next-door neighbor Providence Country Day Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Alyssa Karelekas, Victoria Capelo, Eva Fontaine, Amalia Amico and Opal Rocha Lussier each potted a pair of goals for the Townies, who improved to 2-1-0 overall at the time. Eva Soares had one tally and the Knights were charged with an own goal. EPHS keeper Kloey Iacavone was not credited with a save as PCD only had one shot on frame, literally hitting the cross bar once in the contest.

Girls' tennis
The EPHS girls' tennis team offered up a similarly one-side performance as they swept past St. Raphael by a 5-0 score in a Division II outing at home on September 9. Second and third doubles were not contested due to the overall result decided. The Townies also rebounded from their first loss of the fall as they improved to 2-1 to date.

Atop the ladder, Abigail Ellison remained unbeaten at the time for the Townies with a love-love win at first singles. Madison Luu won 2-and-1 at second singles and Hope Moran 0-and-1 at third. Maggie Robinson picked up her first victory at fourth singles, 1-and-1. And the top tandem of Rylee Thurber-Isabella Periquito won their first dubs match 1-and-2.

The Townies upped their record to 3-1 with a 5-2 road win in North Providence Wednesday, Sept. 11. Ellison again bageled her opponent at one, 0-and-0. In four matches at the time, the junior had not lost a set and only dropped nine games total.

Luu was a winner by the identical scores of 7-5, 7-5 and Robinson  earned a  0-and-2 victory. Moran lost at third singles in three sets, 6-4 in the finale.

Thurber and Periquito, at first doubles, and the third tandem of Sydney Olson-Liana Soares won their outings 1-and-3 and 1-and-2, respectively.

Boys' soccer
The EPHS boys' soccer team lost its third game on the trot to begin the 2024 season, falling to host Cumberland by a 5-0 count Tuesday night, Sept. 10. The Townies slipped to 0-3-0 with the defeat.

The Clippers scored twice in the opening 40 minutes, then broke the contest open with three more in the second half. EP keeper Kyle Desrosiers was credited with 11 saves.

Girls' volleyball
The EPHS girls' volleyball team earned its third win in as many regular season outing at the time, though it wasn't as easy as first appeared. The Townies raced to 2-0 lead over host Barrington Wednesday night, Sept. 11, but then had to withstand a rally by the Eagles before holding on to a 3-2 win.

Keira Mullen led the locals 14 kills, 16 assists, 10 digs, 4 blocks and 4 service aces. Ellie Vest added 7 kills, 10 digs and 4 aces.

East Providence improved to 3-0 overall. The game was the first inter-league outing under the revised Interscholastic League scheduling formula for the Division I Townies. They picked up 6 points in the new system for beating D-2 Barrington.
