Emilia Andrade, 87, of Westport

Emilia (Antunes) Andrade, 87, of Westport died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at Somerset Ridge Center. Born in Westport, daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Rosa) Antunes, she had lived in Westport for most of her life.

She worked in several sewing shops in Fall River, retiring in her 80‘s. Mrs. Andrade was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport. She was an avid bingo player.

Survivors include her son, John W. Andrade Jr. of Westport; a grandson, John W. “Buddy” Andrade III and his wife Carolyn of New Bedford; two great granddaughters, Hadleigh Marie Joelle and Braelyn Emilia; two sisters, Deolinda “Del” Cangiano of Westport and Adeline Morris of Bristol, RI; a brother, Antonio Antunes and his wife Tina of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Perry, Connie Dubois, Alice Moore and Rose Manchester.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Somerset Ridge Center for their compassionate care during this difficult time; words cannot express their gratitude.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
