Elvira (Cabral) Botelho, 90, of Chestnut Street passed away on July 7, 2019, at Newport Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Geraldino A. Botelho for 65 years.

Born in Pico da Pedra, Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria da Gloria (Teixeira) Cabral. She is survived by her children, Helder Botelho and his wife Marisa of Portsmouth, Zulmira Allcock and her husband Robert E. Allcock III of Tiverton; and grandchildren, Christopher Botelho, James Botelho and Robert E. Allcock IV. She is also survived by her sisters, Leonilde Da Camara Simoes and Eduarda T. Cabral, both of Sao Miguel, Azores, as well as her sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Elvira was the sister of the late Gilberto Cabral, Geraldo Cabral and Leonel Cabral.

Elvira attended school in Sao Miguel and then apprenticed as a seamstress, quickly establishing her own business. She arrived in the United States in 1963, where she worked as a seamstress for Priscilla Sportswear, Royal Robes and Well Made Dresses for many years before retiring. She was a faithful parishioner of St Elizabeth’s Church, where she was also a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.

Elvira enjoyed cooking, being with her family, campfires in New Hampshire, sewing, listening to music and helping any friend and family in need.  

Her funeral services were held July 11 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Adelio Cabral and Marisa Botelho. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Edward Cabral, and the offertory gifts were presented by Helder Botelho and Zulmira Allcock. The eulogy was given by Robert E. Allcock III.

Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Christopher Botelho, Robert E. Allcock IV, Robert Cabral, Paul Cabral, Bert Cabral and Al Cabral.
