Elizabeth Howland Kear, 64, of Prudence Island, Rhode Island, and Edgewater, Fla., passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019. Born in Merrick, N.Y., she was the daughter of George and Patricia Howland. Elizabeth grew up in Attleboro, Mass., and spent every summer on Prudence Island.
She eventually moved to Prudence and became the teacher’s aide at Prudence Island School for many years. She treasured the children and loved the school. It was one of her greatest joys.
She was an amazing aunt who was always the fun adult of the family. Her laugh was huge and infectious and truly unforgettable, and so was her heart.
Betsy graduated from Monserrat College of Art in Beverly, Mass. She was wonderful with her hands, creating beautiful art in many areas, including weaving, macramé, sketching, bead work and jewelry. She moved to Florida in 2005, where she continued as a teacher's aide and married Merritt Kear, settling in Edgewater.
Betsy is survived by her sister, Nancy Howland, her nephew, Timothy Jones, and his wife, Veronica. She will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
We love you, Bets.
