Eleanor Accardi, 71, Bristol

Eleanor "Dean" Accardi, 71, of Bristol passed away at home after a long illness. She was the wife of 47 years to Peter L. Accardi Jr. Born in Roanoke Virginia she was a daughter of the late George and Marie (Jones) Lucas.

Mrs. Accardi worked as a rate analyst for Providence-Washington and Metropolitan insurance companies. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Peter Accardi III of Warren and Kevin Accardi of Bristol. She was the sister of Johnny Lucas, Barbara Saul and Mary Frances Parkhurst, all of Virginia. She was predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Clinginpeel. She was the grandmother of Jordan, Mia and Lucas.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 30, 4-7 p.m. Her funeral will be Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. with a funeral home service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Bristol.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 245 Waterman St. Suite 306 Providence RI 02906.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
