Elaine L. Samson, 85, Bristol

Elaine L. Samson (Camara), 85, passed away Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Romeo J. Samson Sr., to whom she was married 59 years before his passing in 2009.

Born in Warren, a daughter of the late Manuel and the late Evan (LaFlamme) Camara, she had been a resident of Bristol for 63 years.

She is survived by her son, Romeo J. Samson Jr. of Riverside; daughter Deborah Florant and her husband James of Port St. John, Fla.; five grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Geraldine DeAngelis and Ronald Camara.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St., Warren, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
