EAST PROVIDENCE — Recent East Providence High School graduate George Benziger has been recognized among the Class of 2021 Academic All Americans by the United States Lacrosse Association.

A senior on the boys’ lacrosse squad, Benziger was a starting midfield for the Townies this past spring when he scored the first goal of his career. He also spent time at defense and attack and took face-offs. Benziger was a four-year varsity letterman.

Off the field, Benziger was even more so impressive. He was the salutatorian (second-ranked) member of the EPHS Class of 2021 with a final cumulative grade point average of 96.13. Benziger will attend Cornell University in New York beginning this fall where he intends to major in Industrial and Labor Relations.

“This is the first time such a prestigious distinction has been achieved by a Townie,” EPHS boys’ lacrosse head coach Angelo Pizzi, co-signed by assistant coach Mike Forrest, said upon learning of Benziger’s selection. “You have brought honor and pride to your family, the team, the school and the community. It has been our privilege to have coached you for four years. Best of luck at Cornell.”
