The second season starts Friday.

The Barrington High School football team wrapped up its regular season with a 35-7 win over Westerly on Friday, April 23. Barrington will host Tolman in the Division II semifinals this Friday night.

“They’re athletic. They have a very good quarterback, a good running back,” said Barrington High School Head Coach Sandy Gorham of the Tolman Tigers. “We’ll have our hands full.”

Tolman finished in second place in the Division II-A standings behind St. Raphaels, while Barrington finished in first place in Division II-B. St. Raphaels will play against Westerly in the other Division II semifinal playoff game.

Coach Gorham said Barrington’s group of seniors played in the Freshman Super Bowl four years ago, losing a close game to Hendricken. He said he told this year’s team that they have an opportunity to play in another Super Bowl, to finish out their high school careers as Super Bowl champions.

“If we win, we go to the Super Bowl,” he said.

The Eagles will host Tolman this Friday at Barrington High School’s Victory Field at 6 p.m.

Win over Westerly

Coach Gorham praised the play of his senior quarterback Brigham Dunphy in the Eagles’ 35-7 win over Westerly on Friday night.

“We were very fortunate that Brigham is an outstanding option quarterback,” Coach Gorham said. “He made some great reads.”

Dunphy opened the scoring in the first half for the Eagles. Barrington extended its lead to 14-0 a short time later when Dunphy connected with Mark Bernardo on a 35-yard scoring strike.

“And then Brigham scored again on a broken play,” Coach Gorham said.

Barrington leaned on its hard-working offensive line on a long, sustained drive to start the third quarter. Coach Gorham said Barrington’s running backs took turns driving down the field, with Bernardo reaching the end zone to cap the drive.

Barrington’s final score came on a pass from Dunphy to senior slot back Matt Daft. Coach Gorham said Daft did a nice job getting past the defender and Dunphy offered up a nice pass down the seam.

“We played very, very well,” Coach Gorham said. “They were big and they were good on film. We were very concerned because they were bigger than us, but we handled them.”
