The Barrington High School boys' hockey team advanced to semifinals of the Division II playoffs after defeating the PCD/Wheeler/St. Ray's co-op team in two straight games last weekend.

Barrington tops PCD/Wheeler/St. Rays in two straight

The Barrington High School boys' hockey team advanced to semifinals of the Division II playoffs after defeating the PCD/Wheeler/St. Ray's co-op team in two straight games last weekend.

Barrington, a number two seed, skated past PCD/Wheeler/St. Ray's 3-2 on Friday night. Michael Grieve opened the scoring for Barrington in the second period, off an assist from Josh Roy. 

In the third period, Barrington scored back-to-back goals. First, Barrington's TJ Hall scored on a power play while Kyle Shuman and Brett Turgeon notched assists. Jonny Fay scored Barrington's final goal of the game off an assist from Turgeon.

On Saturday, the Eagles wrapped up the series with a 5-4 win. 

The PCD co-op scored first, but Barrington tied it up when Shuman scored off assists from Grieve and Hall.

Roy scored Barrington's second goal, assisted by Fay, and Drew Sirmalis gave the Eagles their third goal. Shuman and Roy assisted on the goal. 

PCD/Wheeler/St. Rays scored twice to tie the game, but Barrington pulled ahead in the third period. Shuman gave the Eagles a lead with his third period goal (assist from Luke Rudman). The co-op refused to give up and again tied the game, but Shuman scored scored his third goal of the game and finished with a hat-trick. Sirmalis assisted.

Josh Cabral made a total of 49 saves in the two victories.

Barrington will play the winner of the Ponaganset vs. Portsmouth playoff matchup. The first game of the semifinals will be played on Friday, March 10 at Portsmouth Abbey.
