The Barrington High School football team opened up the regular season with a 28-7 win over Burrillville on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9.

The Eagles traveled to Burrillville for the game and pushed out to a 14-0 first half lead. Barrington stretched the lead to 21-0 in the third quarter when senior running back AJ DiOrio followed a wall of blockers into the end zone. The touchdown capped a long drive by the Eagles which featured nice runs by Mitchell Ivatts, DiOrio and Alex McClelland. Barrington also capitalized on a pass interference call against the Broncos.

Barrington’s defense played well throughout the game, allowing only a fourth quarter score against Burrillville.

McClelland, a senior quarterback, rounded out the scoring for Barrington with a 38-yard touchdown run on a third and long in the fourth quarter. Ben Aree drilled all four extra points.

McClelland finished the game with 170 yards on the ground on eight carries, and had two touchdowns.

Barrington will host Shea this Friday at 6:15 p.m.
