Barrington tops Prout 2-0 in Game 2

Posted

Josh Leadem pitched six scoreless innings and George Promades closed it out with a strong seventh as the Barrington High School baseball team defeated Prout 2-0 in Game 2 of the Division II semifinals series on Tuesday, June 4.

The Eagles' victory forces a third and deciding game, which will be played today, Wednesday, June 5, at Pierce Field in East Providence at 4 p.m.

The Eagles dropped the first game of the series 2-0, but turned the tables in Game 2, winning by the same margin. Matt Macaluso, Matt Culligan and Elijah Kraemer led Barrington's offense while Leadem and Promades were solid on the mound. The sophomores combined to limit Prout to just two hits. Leadem struck out nine Prout batters, and Promades retired the lineup in order in the seventh.

Prout entered the playoffs as the 4A seed, while Barrington is the 6A seed. The Eagles upset 3B seed Westerly 2-1 in the preliminary round, and 2A seed Mt. Hope 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Prout defeated Scituate 2-1 in the preliminary round and knocked off St. Raphael's 2-0 in quarterfinals.

Two left-handed pitchers are likely to square off in Game 3 today — Henry Johnson for Barrington and Tate Copeland for Prout are the expected starters.
