On Monday night, Jan. 22, Barrington hosted Westerly and rolled to a 61-54 win.
The victory extended Barrington’s home winning streak to 15 games. Matt Raffa led the Eagles with 22 points, while Nick Scandura netted 14, including going 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Colin McDermott knocked two three-pointers and added eight points. Quinn Murphy played excellent defense and contributed five points. Owen Pfeffer, Evan Anderson and Ryan Rigamonti rounded out the scoring by scoring four a piece.
Barrington improved to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in league play and will host Hendricken Friday night at 7 p.m. “Please come out and pack the gym to support the boys team,” said BHS Coach Mike Raffa.
The victory over Westerly followed a 55-50 win against Woonsocket last Thursday night.
Scandura scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, including going 8-8 from the line in the fourth quarter. Ryan Rigamonti hit a baseline jumper with 5:05 remaining to give the Eagles a 45-41 lead. Raffa buried his fifth three-pointer of the contest with 1:41 remaining to give the home team breathing room and a 51-45 advantage. Raffa finished with 19 points, while Rigamonti had five points on the night.
Barrington’s lone loss of the season came last week against Classical. In a battle between the last two undefeated teams in Division I, Classical defeated Barrington 75-66.
Raffa got the visitors off to a fast start by hitting four first quarter three-pointers to help the Eagles build an early 16-3 lead, but the Purple used relentless pressure defense to cut the deficit to 19-10 after the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter, Classical had taken the lead, 30-27.
Classical expanded the lead to 49-38, before Scandura brought Barrington back. Scandura, a senior, scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half and when Pfeffer knocked dock a three-pointer with 5:50 remaining the Eagles cut the deficit to 54-50.
However, Classical answered each run and came away with the nine point win. Raffa lead Barrington with 28 points.
