PORTSMOUTH — Armed with rubber balls, cannon arms, grit and determination, 17 teams battled it out inside the Portsmouth High School field house last week for the annual dodgeball tournament to support healthy choices.
The PHS Youth to Youth (Y2Y) program, in conjunction with the Portsmouth Prevention Coalition, organized this year's dodgeball tournament as part of the Herren Project's Wellness Week.
Ben Chase, a PHS senior who founded the Y2Y program at the high school, spearheaded the event with the club's advisor and PHS Science teacher, Lisa Zabel.
There were nine student teams and eight adult teams, including police officers, Town Council and School Committee members, Superintendent Thomas Kenworthy, teachers from PHS and Melville Elementary School, Herren Project members, and Portsmouth Prevention Coalition members.
Some of the team names: The Dodgefathers, Baskets of Fruit, Junk Gang, Beast Mode, Balls of Fury, and Purple Reign
Students had a blast throwing dodgeballs at teachers, staff members and administrators without having to worry about getting in trouble.
Entry to the event was a canned good, which will be donated to a local food pantry.
