Dorothy (Wood) Vollmer, 90, of Little Compton, RI, died peacefully in the home she built, surrounded by loved ones, on November 24, 2021. She was the adoring wife of George W. Vollmer for nearly 68 years. At home, she was lovingly cared for throughout her last four years of immobility and declining health, by her devoted family.
Dorothy “Dot” was born in Fall River, MA on January 6, 1931, to the late Joseph and Sadie (Folger) Wood. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their three children, Dale Allen Vollmer, Nancy Lambrecht (Dr. Jon Lambrecht), and Glenn Vollmer (Robert Nesmith), all of Rhode Island; and two grandchildren, Morgan Alexis Lambrecht (Andrew Muñoz) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Spencer Alexander Lambrecht (Arielle Coopersmith) of Connecticut.
Dot was always very active, walking for miles, playing bingo, helping others, listening to music, dancing, cooking, and gardening. She enjoyed all things in nature, including bird watching and being by the ocean. She had a deep love for all animals, especially her favorite late dog, Beeper. Most of all, she treasured her family and loved them immensely. Dorothy traveled some, but always believed — “There’s No Place Like Home.”
Per her request, a private graveside ceremony will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery.
