Dorothy Ellis VanderWoude, 91, of Riverside, died peacefully on February 4, 2016. She was the wife of the late Andrew J. VanderWoude and daughter to the late Howard Pierce and the late Blanche Smith. Dorothy was a longtime member of The Evangelical Covenant Church of Riverside.

She leaves behind her three children; daughters Elizabeth Hagan of Barrington and Susan Prior of Rushden, England, and one son David VanderWoude of West Swanzey, NH. Dorothy was sister to the late Ruth Green. She has seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Calling hours will take place at Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave., Riverside, 02915, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at The Evangelical Covenant Church, 165 Rounds Ave., Riverside. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Camp Squanto Camper Scholarships at Pilgrim Pines, 220 West Shore Road, Swanzey, N.H., 03446.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
