Domenic M. Castigliego, 89, Bristol

Domenic M. Castigliego, 89, passed away on July 7, 2017. He was the husband of Helen (Pelchat) Castigliego, his wife of 66 years. Born and raised in Bristol, he was the son of the late Matteo Castigliego, Sr., and LuiGina (Murgo) Castigliego.

Domenic served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a self-employed commercial fisherman for more than 40 years, he loved spending time with his family and he also enjoyed cooking.

Besides his loving wife, he also leaves behind his children, Marie McKenzie and her husband George, Donald Castigliego Sr. and his wife Ann, Joyce Faria and her husband Gilbert, and Matteo Castigliego. He will be sorely missed by 10 grandchildren, Lisa Souza, Mark McKenzie and his wife Noreen, Gregory McKenzie and his wife Jennifer, Donald Castigliego Jr. and his wife Lisa, Domenic Castigliego, Gaetano Castigliego, Kevin Faria and his wife Samantha, Gilbert Faria Jr., Kimberly Silva and her husband Kevin, and Marissa Castigliego; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Marie Pirri. Domenic was predeceased by nine of his siblings; his brothers, Matteo Castigliego Jr., Paul, Gaetano, Cosmo, Nicholas and Damiano Castigliego; and his sisters, Ann Salvaggi, Lucy DelPiano, and Sue Salcone.

Funeral Services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning only, 8-9 a.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
