PORTSMOUTH — For the first time since March, Portsmouth High athletes savored the taste of competition on Saturday.
The PHS boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams hosted Tiverton, East Providence and La Salle to a dual meet at Glen Park.
Both La Salle teams swept the meet, but the Patriots topped the Tigers and the Townies on the 3.1-mile course.
PHS senior Sabrina Leary came in second among the girls, with a time of 20 minutes, 14 seconds. La Salle freshman Mia Bettez won the event in 20:01.
Abby Gilpin came in sixth for the Patriots with a time of 21:02, followed by Kitty Damon (eighth place, 21:55), Katie Yalanis (ninth, 21:59), Keira Foster (13th, 23:49), Ryan McNeilly (15th, 24:23), and Morgan Levreault (18th, 24:57).
The top Portsmouth High finisher among the boys was Kaden Kluth with a time of 17:30.
He was followed by Jeff Brady (11th, 18:50), Joe Hook (13th, 19:11), Hayden Shea (16th, 20:19), and Tanner McHugh (17th, 20:33).
Due to the number of boys competing, two separate races were held to prevent enough social distancing on the course.
