Chamber Orchestra of Barrington in concert

The concert will feature acclaimed soprano, Diana McVey, who has held leading roles in operas and performed as a soloist with symphonies throughout the United States. In her appearance with the Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John’s, Ms. McVey will sing Dies Natalis, Opus 8 by Gerald Finzi.  Led by conductor Edward Markward, the chamber orchestra also will perform Sinfonia in B flat Major, Opus 18, No. 2, by Johann C. Bach and Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Opus. 21 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The orchestra includes 34 professional, community and student musicians. Local residents in the orchestra are Gerald Diebold, oboe, Linda Diebold, oboe, and William Klimpert, bassoon, all of Barrington; Peri DeLorenzo, violin, Hilary Hartlaub, violin, and Alicia Ruggiero, violin, all of Tiverton.

WHEN: Sunday, Feb. 25; 3 p.m.
COST: Free; donations welcome

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
