Catherine Amiss, 92, of Bristol

Catherine (McDermott) Amiss, 92, of Bristol, R.I., died peacefully on Tuesday, June 23. She was the loving wife of the late Robert T. Amiss. They were married for 66 years.

Catherine had previously lived in Riverside for 34 years before moving to Bristol in 1992. Born in Cambridge, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Clara (Dechaine) McDermott.

Catherine was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed traveling, entertaining and spending time with her family. She leaves three children, Catherine Bramley and her husband Alan of Anthem, Ariz., Barbara Alamo and her husband Ernest of Warren, R.I., and Roberta Wright and her husband Douglas of Bristol, R.I. She is the grandmother of James Hagerty, Robert Hagerty, Erika Irlbeck and Jenna Costa. She also has three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Joseph McDermott and the late Clara McDermott.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Funeral and burial will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, Warren, R.I. Contributions in Catherine’s memory can be made to St. Elizabeth’s Manor, 1 Dawn Hill Rd., Bristol, RI 02809 and would be greatly appreciated. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
