Carmela “Millie” Lima, 93, of Bristol

Carmela “Millie” Lima, 93, passed away at her home on July 5, 2019, comfortably surrounded by family.

Millie was married to the late Manuel V. Lima for 34 years.

Millie was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Carmela (Fiore) Proto. She was also predeceased by her son, John Lima, and her siblings, Frank Proto, Gaetano “Don” Proto, Joseph Proto, Anthony Proto, Mary Hamel, and Catherine Dias.

Millie was known for her love for her family, bowling, Foxwoods and doing word search. She also enjoyed chocolates, Wheel of Fortune and James from Jeopardy.

Millie’s memory lives on through her son, Richard A. Lima (his wife Michelle) of Bristol and her two grandchildren, Richard A. Lima, Jr. and Ashley K. Conte, as well as her sister, Susie Souza.

Funeral services will be held from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting Hours will be Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, 1184 E. Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
