Vehicle nearly hits Barrington home

Posted

A 25-year-old Barrington man is facing multiple charges following an accident on Monday, March 23.

Officers responded to a single car accident near the intersection of Nayatt Road and Bay Road at about 2:30 p.m.

The car, driven by Matthew Achorn of 80 Bay Road, had struck a utility pole and veered across the front lawn of a Nayatt Road home coming to a stop just a few feet from the front door.

Police said the vehicle suffered significant damage, and the pole was snapped in half and left hanging by power lines.

Police said Mr. Achorn appeared to be under the influence and later charged him with DUI drugs/alcohol-second offense, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and driving with a suspended license.

Police said Mr. Achorn had taken a family member's car without permission. Police have issued a warrant for Mr. Achorn for driving a vehicle without consent.

Police also said Mr. Achorn wanted to fight with the police officers during the incident.
