The deadline for candidates to officially file to run for office came and went on Wednesday, with many familiar names and a few new ones in the flurry of filings as the 4 p.m. hour approached.

All current Bristol Town Council members, including Democrats Nathan Calouro, Aaron Ley and Tim Sweeney, Republican Mary Parella, and Independent Tony Teixiera threw their hats in the ring for another term.

Additional candidates include Democrats Adam Ramos, Alan Wroblewski, Joseph DeMelo, and Bethany Sousa Foster; and Independents Michael Byrnes and Roxanne Giusti-Lavoie.

Democrat Melissa Cordeiro, who mounted a surprise challenge to Republican Town Clerk Lou Cirillo in the 2018 election, will be running again, unopposed this time. Mr. Cirillo will be retiring from the post at the end of the year.

Town Administrator Steve Contente, an Independent, will also be running unopposed.

Declared candidates for Bristol to the Bristol Warren Regional School Committee include William O’Dell, Marjorie McBride, Brian Bradshaw, Andrew Benn, Corrie Daluz, Karen Cabral, Peter Hewett, and Sarah Bullard.

Will Sousa Grapentine, Republican Town Committee vice chairman, and Erich Haslehurst, chairman of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, were both present at Town Hall as the 4 p.m. filing deadline approached. “We have more new people coming out for the local Republican Party,” said Mr. Grapentine. “It’s an exciting time.”

“We are excited by the momentum created these past two years on the BDTC,” said Mr. Haslehurst. “By the end of the filing deadline we expect to have at least 100 applications for the Town Committee.”

“Our endorsement meeting is happening this evening so we can make our recommendations based on everyone who has declared candidacy.”
