British Motorcar Festival returns to Bristol

The event will kick off with a Friday night street party, open to the public and featuring about 80 vintage British motorcars, British Invasion music, and food, wine and beer from local restaurants. Saturday is the main event, when all cars — including some incredibly rare and valuable entries — can be viewed and judged. Additional highlights include competitions for best dressed, best ladies' hat, and the highly anticipated arrival of "The Queen."

WHERE: Independence Park (Friday night party); Town Beach Complex (Saturday show)
WHEN: Friday, June 8 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 9 gates open at 9 a.m.
COST: Friday night free; Saturday $10 (children 12 and under are free)

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
