Bristol Police: Residents report kids playing, groups gathering, all over town

The Bristol Police log saw a noticeable increase in residents calling to report their neighbors or strangers gathering, playing or congregating in public. Police officers also arrested a Barrington man for allegedly stealing scrap metal.

Monday, March 23

Officers responded to Rosedale Drive at 10:47 a.m. for a child custody dispute.

A caller reported a daycare facility operating during the state-mandated shutdown.

At 9:26 p.m., a caller complained about people yelling for the past hour in a St. Elizabeth St. residence. A patrolman found someone was talking loudly on the phone, and he asked them to quiet down.

Tuesday, March 24

At 9:47 a.m., a patrolman told parents on Wood Street that a neighbor complained of their child being too loud.

A caller reported an injured turkey in the area of Hope Street and Jefferson Lane.

At 12:16 p.m., children were found playing outside on Lisa Lane. They were taken home by their parents.

A caller reported a group of children in a group on the Town Common at 1:38 p.m. They were gone when an officer arrived.

At 5:35 p.m., a woman called from Siegel Street to say her ex-boyfriend was sitting on her stairs after taking some of her property. Officers responded and arrested Charles J. Walason, 47, of 7 Siegel St., Apt. 3, Bristol. He was charged with breaking-and-entering and domestic larceny (under $1,500). He was arraigned at the station and released.

A caller reported two people in a white Chevy taking pictures of houses in the area of Berry Lane, Hopeworth and Wendy Lane. An officer found they people. There were no issues; they were getting ready to start a new paper route.

A caller from Tower Street heard a loud bang, found a skateboard unattended and called police at 8:30 p.m. A patrolman found four people in a car, including three juveniles who had been playing with a skateboard. A mother took the kids home, and the homeowner decided not to file a report about the property damage from the skateboard.

Wednesday, March 25

A caller complained of someone playing drums in the area of Ansonia Avenue at 11:07 p.m. A patrolman responded and heard nothing unusual in the area.

Officers responded to Deer Run Road for a verbal domestic dispute at 11:12 p.m. It was resolved when one of the parties left for the night.

Thursday, March 26

A caller reported children playing on the basketball court at Cedar Crest Park off Fatima Drive at 1:27 p.m. They were gone when an officer arrived.

A caller complained about a group of people gathered on Hope Street at 2:06 p.m. It was a group of volunteers working on a food donation program.

Brian Silva, 31, of 2 Melrose Drive, Bristol, was charged with violation of a no-contact order at 2:39 p.m.

An officer dispersed a group of 30 to 40 people from the Town Beach area at 3:18 p.m.

An officer then dispersed 10 juveniles from the skate park at the town sports complex, five from the baseball field and 4 from the basketball courts.

Police received two calls from Everett Street regarding an argument between a mother and her children at 7:48 p.m. First the mother called; then the children called.

Friday, March 27

A caller from Roma Street complained about kids running through yards at 12:07 p.m.

An officer responded to Stop ’n Shop at 1:14 p.m. for a disorderly man at the Citizens Bank counter who was having problems with his bank account. He was removed from the store.

Saturday, March 28

A caller reported a man in red bathrobe and pajamas pacing back and forth on the side of Metacom Avenue at 12:02 a.m. An officer responded but was unable to locate the man.

A resident complained of loud music on Ursula Drive at 12:16 a.m. A patrolman spoke to the loud parties and advised them to lower the music for the night.

Officers responded to Washington Street at 8:30 a.m. for a woman allegedly screaming for help. It was a verbal argument, and there were no arrests.

Someone called police to report a loud gathering on Basswood Road at 11:34 a.m. A patrolman responded and found balloons outside but no one home and no cars in the area.

Someone brought an injured goose to the animal shelter at 12:12 p.m. The goose was transported to a wildlife rehabilitation clinic.

A caller reported a large gathering with cars and music on Hamlet Drive at 12:29 p.m. A patrolman investigated and found no problem; it was a gathering of fewer than 10 family members.

An officer spoke to two people on Fales Road who had a car with New York plates parked in the driveway. They were notified on the state’s mandatory quarantine order for New York residents.

A caller reported a group of girls playing soccer at Mt. Hope High School at 2:52 p.m. A patrolman found four kids playing soccer and reported no problems.

A caller used the department’s 411 tipline to report a group of eight people gathered on the back deck of an Evelyn Drive home. A patrolman spoke to the group and advised them of the state’s new directive to gather in groups no larger than five people.

A caller reported someone stealing metal from Bristol Metals on Gooding Avenue at 4:12 p.m. A patrolman responded and chased the suspect on foot before apprehending him. David T. O’Connor, 35, of Barrington, was charged with larceny under $1,500 and resisting arrest. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released.

Sunday, March 29

Police were notified of a 911 call from Baker Street at 12:42 a.m. A woman first reported a domestic incident, then said the offender had left and tried to cancel the call. At 2:56 a.m., a woman called back to say she had been assaulted by a man at the residence. Officers responded and arrested Chandler Hearn, 40, of Providence. He was charged domestic assault.

An officer dispersed people from Independence Park at 3:44 a.m.

A caller reported a Gooding Avenue business that was still operating after a mandated shutdown order. A patrolman spoke to the business owner and advised them of the situation.

A caller reported a suspicious man with a backpack in the area of the Tee Pees near the Mt. Hope Boat Ramp. An officer found a man who was attempting to camp in the area; he was sent on his way.

Callers from State Street and Fox Hill Avenue both reported hearing a loud boom at 10:46 p.m.

At 11:20 p.m., a caller reported an “out of control” family member inside their residence. Officers responded and arrested Bret Caizi, 30, of 356 Wood St., Apt. 1, Bristol. He was charged with domestic vandalism, arraigned at the station and released.
