This year’s Harbor Festival, held Aug. 13 at Rockwell Park, included one sunny day, two bands, 32 steaks, 50 boats (blessed by Fr. Barry of St. Mary’s Church), 200 littleneck dinners, 200 stuffies (donated by Peter Squatrito), 200 littlenecks, and 500 oysters.
The result? A roughly $9,000 profit after expenses that harbormaster Gregg Marsili hopes to allocate toward a new playground at Rockwell Park, in collaboration with the Bristol Parks and Recreation Department.
The event included a Blessing of the Fleet that Marsili says enjoyed a big turnout this year, a stuffie contest (won by Robert Pirri), live music, beer, wine, and raw bar sales, and a traditional littleneck boil (or steak) dinner.
Marsili credits the success of the day to the many volunteers, friends, and community members who turned out to help.
“It was incredible,” he said of the enthusiastic support for the event — “People like Frank McDermott, who donated all the dogs and buns for the kids meals — He’s not even a Bristol resident,” said Marsili.
“It was a great day. A great community event.”
