The lengthy process of assessing the value of every property in Bristol begins today and is expected to last about eight months. Armed with cameras and their GPS, two employees from Northeast Revaluation Group LLC of Warwick will begin taking photographs of every residential and commercial property in town, to build a new database of property values in Bristol.
Conducted every 10 years, this full revaluation will include fresh photos, site visits and new assessed values for 10,123 total properties. Once these photographs are done, and over the next eight months, appraisers will be walking the town’s streets, going door to door and asking to tour the inside of properties. If homeowners are not there, appraisers will leave a card and ask the owner to schedule an appointment.
Bristol Tax Assessor Michelle DiMeo said they will notify the Bristol Police Department of who is conducting the revaluation and what cars they drive, to hopefully ease concerns from residents who see something “suspicious” in their neighborhoods.
Three companies submitted bids to perform the revaluation. Northeast, the same company that did a statistical revaluation three years ago, was the low bidder, at $374,800. Two other bidders were Tyler Technologies of Moraine, Ohio ($396,000) and Vision Government Solutions of Hudson, Mass. ($411,000).
This process is expected to continue through October, and the new property values would take effect for the 2020 fiscal year, beginning on July 1, 2019.
