Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival is this weekend

Posted

Celebrate the Harvest of the Sea at the 35th annual Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18. The festival promises two days of fresh seafood, live music, and family fun.

Expect local favorites like fish tacos, lobster rolls, stuffies, chowder, fried calamari, clams, oysters, and more — plus signature cocktails and cold beer beneath Bowen’s Wharf’s colorful tents. Neighboring restaurants and fishermen’s associations serve up their most celebrated seafood dishes, along with a few tasty options for landlubbers and kids.

There will be continuous live music throughout the weekend, featuring folk, surf rock and blues bands. Café-style seating is available throughout the wharf, and a portion of proceeds from the festival bars benefits Child & Family.

Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
