Cole Bourdria shot a 74 as the Westport golf team placed third during the MAC Championship Tournament at Acushnet River Valley Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.

"Everything was going smooth," Boudria, a junior said. "My putts were sinking and my driver felt amazing."

Boudria shot a one-under par 35 on the  front nine and shot a 39 on the back nine.

The Wildcats also won a nine-hole match agianst Upper Cape Cod during the tournament to finish their regular season at 7-6-1 and insert the team into the state tournament next Tuesday at Foxboro Country Club.

"It's been an incredible season," said  senior captain Ben Bernier, who shot an 82 during the tournament.  "We wanted to extend the year as much as we could. These guys have the fire, they want to win. We're a very competitive team."

Pomising eighth grader Will Forbes shot an 81 and junior Liam McMahon shot an 89 for a team total of 326 good enough for third place at the tournament. The Wildcats won five-straight matches down the stretch to make the state tournament.

"The way they perform under pressure is amazing." said head coach Matt Kampper. "Some teams may have folded. But these guys didn't give up."
