BHS Sports Roundup: Girls soccer team shuts out Prout School

Mckenna Pires scored the lone goal as the Barrington High School girls soccer team defeated The Prout School 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 18. Mak Lema tallied the assist on Pires’s goal.

Barrington coach Sue Silva said the whole team worked well together for the entire game. The shutout win followed a 2-1 loss to Chariho on Tuesday, Sept. 15. 

Girls volleyball

Barrington’s record moved to 3-2 in Division I standings following a 3-1 loss to Bishop Feehan on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The Eagles wins have come against South Kingstown (3-1), East Providence (3-2), and Chariho (3-0).

Girls tennis

Barrington improved to 5-2 with a 7-0 victory over Moses Brown on Thursday, Sept. 17. The Eagles had lost to LaSalle 1-6 on Wednesday, Sept. 16, and defeated Cranston West on Friday, Sept. 11. Barrington also notched a recent 6-1 win over East Greenwich. 

Boys soccer

The Barrington High School boys soccer team defeated the Pawtucket Co-op team 3-1 on Monday, Sept. 14. Two days later, on Sept. 16, Barrington lost to Bishop Hendricken 2-0.

The Eagles also played a pair of games in New York over the weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 19, Barrington tied Kellenberg High School, 2-2, and on Sunday, Sept. 20, Barrington lost to St. Anthony’s High School, 4-0.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
