Eagles defeat Burrillville and Cranston West

The Barrington High School girls soccer team is 2-0 after opening the season with a pair of wins. 

Four separate Eagles scored goals in Barrington's 4-1 season-opening win over Burrillville on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Sophia Richardson, Sarah Yee, Ashley Edwards and Grace Muccino each scored for the Eagles, while Elizabeth McConaghy and Alaina Wood teamed up to make four saves in net for Barrington.

On Friday afternoon, Barrington's Ashley Edwards scored the Eagles' lone goal in a 1-0 win over Cranston West. Cary Heterick notched an assist on the game-winner. McConaghy made 12 saves in the victory. 

Girls tennis

Barrington opened the season with a 5-2 victory over East Greenwich last week. Singles player Kate Robertson (6-1, 6-0), Beth Wang (6-1, 6-0) and Marie Chanfrau (6-0, 6-3) each won their matches, as did the doubles teams of Eve Stockwell and Hailey Walter (6-2, 6-0) and Julia Stanchina and Alison Kostas (6-1, 6-3). 

Boys soccer

The Eagles are 1-1 after splitting in their first two games this season. Barrington opened the season on Wednesday, Sept. 4 with a 2-1 win over Cumberland. On Friday, Barrington traveled to Providence to play Moses Brown, losing 1-0 against the Quakers.

Alex Soares and Lucian Fairbrother each scored for Barrington in the win over the Clippers, while Aidan Doyle and Matt Bates tallied assists. Soares's goal was the game-winner, breaking a 1-1 tie with just two minutes to play. 

Field hockey

Barrington opened the season with a 2-1 loss against Moses Brown on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Eagles and the Quakers were tied 1-1 after the first half — Maeve Harrington scored Barrington's goal. Meanwhile Mackenzie Stephens made 12 saves in nets against the Quakers. 

Girls volleyball

Barrington lost 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 23-25) against Coventry in the Eagles' first match of the season. 

Boys cross country

Barrington squared off against the always-tough LaSalle Rams in the season-opening meet and lost 20-41. Barrington's Holden Vaughan finished in first place overall, covering the 3.1-mile course in 17:15. LaSalle had the next five finishers, while Barrington's Kaden Voeller finished seventh and the Eagles' C.J. Hilty was 10th.

Girls cross country

The Eagles won three times in their first meet of the season, defeating Bay View 15-50, Lincoln School 15-50, and LaSalle 25-45.

Barrington's Caroline Livingston finished third, while Fiona Ainsworth was fourth, Stephanie Chun was fifth, Meg Zitzmann was eighth, Lindsay Turgeon was ninth and Margaret Nozaki was 10th. 

Football

The Barrington High School football team opened its season with a 19-7 loss against Middletown in the Injury Fund games played at Mt. Hope High School on Thursday night, Sept. 5.

The Eagles showed flashes early in the game, but struggled to overcome untimely penalties. The Injury Fund game serves as a warm-up to the regular season, which opens this weekend.

Barrington will host Cranston East on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a non-league game.
