Boys cross country: The Barrington High School boys cross country team remained undefeated after picking up wins against Portsmouth, Tolman and Shea on Saturday, Oct. 10

Barrington defeated Portsmouth 24-33, and Tolman and Shea, each by a score of 15-50. Barrington's record is now 6-0.

The Eagles' Holden Vaughan won the race with a time of 17:19. Barrington's Brandon Piedade finished third overall while Noah Buller was fourth.

Other Eagles to finish in the top-20 overall included Adam Copple (seventh), Charlie Stockwell (ninth), Eliot Lefort (10th), Jordan Freij (11th), Finn Myatt (14th), Jackson Montour (15th), Andrew Rego (16th), Robbie Davis (17th), and Caleb Schultz (19th).

Girls tennis: The Eagles picked up a 7-0 win over Mt. Hope last week, and lost a tough 4-3 decision to Wheeler.

BHS Coach Betsy Brenner said she was proud of her team's effort against Wheeler.

"I was very proud of our doubles teams (all new pairings this year) winning their matches in straight sets," Coach Brenner said.

"Wheeler's singles line-up is super strong and I knew our only chance was to pull out one of those matches."

Barrington best opportunity for a singles win came at second singles — the Eagles' Kate Robertson battled Wheeler's Miranda Yee to a three-set thriller, losing 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

"Our four singles players all competed well and fought hard, but we were unable to get the one needed singles win."

Girls cross country: The Barrington High School girls cross country team picked up wins over Tolman and Shea (15-50 each), but lost to Portsmouth (26-31) in a league meet on Saturday. Barrington's record is now 5-1.

The Eagles placed two runners in the top five — Lindsay Turgeon finished third with a time of 21:30, and Meg Zitzmann was fourth with a time of 21:36. Other top runners for Barrington were Reilly Curran in seventh place, Olivia Johnson in eighth, Maria Gunness in ninth, Virginia Sanderson in 10th, Natasha Epps in 11th, and Anna Garafano in 13th. Jane Bryant finished 15th while Helen Copple was 17th and Cassidy Owens was 19th.

Field hockey: The Barrington High School field hockey team opened its season with games against Moses Brown on Friday and East Greenwich on Monday.
