The Barrington High School boys hockey team finished its regular season on Saturday night with a 7-2 loss against first place LaSalle Academy. 

Matt Bates and Jake Andreozzi each scored goals for the Eagles, while Owen Crain tallied an assist. Barrington finished the regular season in fourth place in Division I standings and will play against Burrillville in the first round of the playoffs. 

The first game of the best-of-three series will be held on Friday night, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Portsmouth Abbey rink. The second game is set for Saturday night, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. at Burrillville. A third game, if necessary, would be played on Monday, March 2 at Portsmouth Abbey. 

Barrington had four players selected to compete in the Division I All-Star Game: Senior Matthew Bates, senior Jacob Andreozzi, junior Owen Crain and sophomore Sam Faulkner.

Girls ice hockey

The East Bay Co-op Girls ice hockey team will enter the Division I hockey playoffs as the number 2 seed. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 14-3-1 record and earned a first round bye in the playoffs. East Bay will play the Burrillville Co-op team, which defeated the Mount St. Charles Co-op team in the first round of the playoffs. Game 1 in the best-of-three series is set for Friday night, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Portsmouth Abbey rink. The second game of the semifinals series is set for Saturday, Feb. 29. The location was to be determined. A third game, if needed, would be played Monday, March 2.

Boys basketball

Barrington's eight-point halftime lead against first-place Portsmouth was erased in the second half, as the Eagles fell to the Patriots 67-64 at home on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Barrington, which led 36-28 at the break, was led in scoring by Will Rywolt and Brendan Conaty. Rywolt finished the game with 19 points and Conaty had 18. Ben Batting scored 13 points for the Eagles.

Barrington bounced back from the loss two nights later, as they defeated Chariho High School 79-66. The Eagles and Chargers were tied at 31-31 at halftime, but Barrington pulled away in the second half. Rywolt paced Barrington with 25 points while Conaty and Batting each scored 13. Ryan Bonneau scored 11 points and Connor Sullivan dropped in nine points.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 15-3 record and will enter the Division II playoff tournament as the number 2 seed. Barrington received a first round bye and will play a quarterfinal game against the winner of the Tolman vs. Wheeler game. Barrington will host the quarterfinal playoff game on either March 2 or 3.

Girls basketball

Barrington ended its regular season with a 6-12 record after losing to Portsmouth, 57-50 on Monday, Feb. 24. 

Nina Gibbons knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a team-game 22 points for Barrington. Cary Heterick scored 15 points and Elizabeth McConaghy added 11 in the loss.

On Friday, Feb. 21, Barrington defeated Moses Brown School 42-30. Heterick played a key role in the victory — she led all scorers with 19 points, including some key baskets during an Eagles' second half run. Chloe Rouleau scored seven points and McConaghy had six.

Barrington nearly upset top-ranked LaSalle Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The Eagles led 19-17 at halftime and came up just short at the end, losing 41-39. Heterick and Gibbons led Barrington's offense, finishing with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
