Barrington High School girls soccer coach Martyn Hollands said this year’s team is led by a strong group of seniors.
“It’s a good group of players — I always talk about looking down the pipeline. This group, I’ve been aware of them coming through. They’re a good group,” he said. “I’m excited for what they might do.
“They can go out and understand and try to execute a game plan. There’s more depth to it.”
Hollands said the midfielders will play a key role for the Eagles this year. He shared praise for Lena Polinski, Bailey Duncan, Ellie Donato, Estella Uden-Alves, and Molly Thurston. Holland said Duncan and Uden-Alves are the team captains.
Last year’s top goal-scorer, Liv Morrissette, will be back to lead the Eagles attack this season. Maggie Olmstead will also see time at the striker position.
Hollands listed off the players who will be expected to make key contributions: Annabel Budde, Addy Jay, Ella Reagan, Julie Edgar-Smith, Kathryn Yang, Lauren Kilpatrick, Lila Jones, Hannah Carlotto, Maddie Kiley, Ava Caldarone, Zoe Hatjopoulos, Kate Pearse, Regan Pires and Mackenzie Lema.
“It’s about competing in every game. If they can do that, we’ll account for ourselves. There’s no reason why this team can’t be competitive in every game they play,” Hollands said.
Barrington battled Burrillville in the recent Injury Fund match — the Eagles defeated the Broncos, 4-0. Barrington defeated Toll Gate 3-1 in a non-league game on Sept. 3, and tied Smithfield 1-1 in a league game on Thursday, Sept. 5.
