Betty (Tubridy) Lyke, 65, Bristol

Betty (Tubridy) Lyke, formerly of Bristol (BHS Class of 1974), was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1956, and passed into eternal life on Feb. 24, 2022, after a long illness. Betty was a resident of Nashville, Tenn., and is survived by her devoted sons, David, and Jonathan Lyke.

She is preceded in death by her son, Jesiah, and her parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Tubridy. Betty was the second of six children. She is survived by her siblings, Barbara (Steve) Lombardi, Nancy (Daniel) Floeter, Raymond (Laura) Tubridy, James (Brenda) Tubridy, Eileen Tubridy, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends throughout the country, including her dear friend, Sheri Norton of Bristol.

Betty was an English teacher in the Nashville school district. Most notably, Elizabeth had a beautiful voice, and is a published songwriter. Services took place at New Generation Funeral Home in Antioch, Tenn.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
