Bernadette Durand, 67, Fall River

Bernadette M. (DaPonte) Durand, 67, of Fall River and formerly of Bristol, passed away on Nov. 15, 2015, at St. Anne’s Hospital.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lionelha (Martin) DaPonte. Bernadette was the mother of Tammy Webster; grandmother of Brocque Turner, Myles Turner and Joselyn Turner and great grandmother of Myles Turner Jr. She was the sister of Mary Ann DaPonte, Joyce Simard, Elizabeth Januskiewicz, Nancy DaPonte-Easter, Susan DaPonte, Mark Stephen DaPonte, Gregory DaPonte, Kenneth DaPonte, Michelle Saslow, Donna Marie Macomber and half sister of Melissa Mazza.  She was the sister of the late Joseph A. DaPonte Jr.

Bernadette was a graduate of St. Catherine’s Academy as well as Katherine Gibbs, and Fisher College. She worked for Lifetime Medical as a CNA and as an administrative assistant for Ideal Bias Binding and Head Start of Fall River.  Bernadette was a former member of the Legion of Mary at St. Elizabeth’s Church.

All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, Nov. 21, 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Friday 5 to 8 p.m. at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
