A handful of local basketball players have been selected to participate in a special event called “A shot for life,” which will be held at St. George’s School in Newport on Aug. 13.

The selected players include Barrington High School’s Matt Raffa, Mady Calhoun, and Maddie Gill, former BHS player Dani Ceseretti, and St. Andrew’s School players Sean Fullerton, Cadence Johnson and Thalia Shepard.

The players will compete for the opportunity to be crowned “The best shooter in RI.”

The event, organized by Mike Slonina, serves as a fund-raiser — donations will benefit brain cancer research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Dr. Curry Research Lab. For more information, visit Ashotforlife.org or through Twitter @ASFL_shoot4cure
