Barrington defeats South Kingstown in finals

The Barrington Junior Division All-Star baseball team won the state championship on Sunday afternoon.

Barrington defeated South Kingstown 5-1 in the second game of the state tournament finals. Barrington had played South Kingstown on Friday night, but dropped a 6-1 decision, forcing the winner-takes-all showdown on Sunday afternoon.

In the must-win game, Barrington trailed 1-0 early, but exploded for a five-run inning late in the game. With Lucas Tanous on second and Blake Dolan on first, Christopher “Bumpy” Promades drilled a double over the right fielder’s head. Tanous scored on the blast, which sparked the offensive explosion.

Meanwhile, Nate Coutant limited a potent South Kingstown offense and Barrington’s defense made one key play after another.

Barrington Manager Chris Promades praised his team’s stellar defense, including plays by Dolan, Brock Carroll, Sam Montour, Alex Anderson, Jack Marley, Matt Fede, Bumpy Promades and others.

“It took the contributions of all 13 players… that’s what it’s always been about,” Coach Promades said.
