The annual tree lighting ceremony in Barrington will go virtual this year.
The event will be a combination of videotaped footage and live-streamed content. The ceremony will be shared on Saturday, Dec. 5 between 4 and 5 p.m.
Stocking pickup
Each registered child will receive a stocking filled with goodies, and have an opportunity to say hello to Santa and deliver a letter, if they wish to do so. Santa will hand out the stockings between 1 and 3 p.m. on Dec. 5.
Children between the ages of 2 and 13 can register for the event — the town opened registration on Nov. 12. Just visit www.barringtonlearningctr.org or click on the Holiday slider on the town’s homepage at www.barrington.ri.gov.
(Children must be registered to receive a stocking — Santa has 165 stockings to hand out.)
Holiday memory contest
As part of the new virtual tree lighting ceremony, the town is hosting a contest for children to share their favorite holiday memory. Children can write their story — they can be up to one page long — and three stories will be chosen as winners with their stories read on videotape. The footage will be streamed at the tree lighting. The winners will also each receive a Barrington Books gift card.
Parents can send their child’s story to recreation@barrington.ri.gov
