Barrington senior named tournament MVP

The Barrington High School girls basketball team rebounded from a loss to South Kingstown with a lopsided victory over Prout, 67-38, on Friday, Dec. 28 in the Barrington Boosters Holiday Tournament. 

Olivia Middleton knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead Barrington in scoring. Cary Heterick finished with 12 points and Alex Marinelli added nine points, while Nina Gibbons scored eight points.

In its second game of the tournament, Barrington jumped out to a 28-17 halftime lead against Juanita Sanchez and rolled to a 53-40 victory. Middleton and Marinelli led Barrington with 15 points each, while Elizabeth McConaghy scored nine for the Eagles.

Marinelli was named to the Barrington Boosters Holiday All-Tournament team and Middleton was named the tournament's MVP.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
